On Wednesday (09 June), Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) published the world university rankings for 2022, in which Dhaka University (DU) and Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet) failed to make any progress.

Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology

Like the previous year, both universities have been placed in the 801-1000 bracket.

University of Dhaka (also known as Dhaka University), which was in the 601 bracket in 2012, slipped to the 701+ bracket in 2014 and further below in 2019.

North South University and BRAC University, two top private universities in Bangladesh, have been placed in the 1001-1200 bracket in the 2022 index.

QS evaluates 1,300 universities across the world according to six metrics: Academic Reputation, Employer Reputation, Faculty/Student Ratio, Citations per faculty, International Faculty Ratio, and International Student Ratio.

QS does not assign specific positions for universities rated below 500.

Massachusetts Institute for Technology (MIT) in United States of America continues to be at the top spot, 10th year in a row. Followed by the University of Oxford, Stanford University, University of Cambridge, and Harvard University, in the top five.

Twenty-six Asian universities were named in the global top 100 in the latest ranking like the previous year, the highest number from this continent till date.

In Asia, the top two universities are National University of Singapore and Nanyang Technological University, also in Singapore, at the 11th and 12th spots in the global rankings respectively.

Eight Indian and three Pakistani institutes have made it to the top 500 in the latest rankings.

The QS ranking is the only international ranking to have received the International Ranking Expert Group (IREG) approval, and is viewed as one of the three most-widely read university rankings in the world, along with the Academic Ranking of World Universities and Times Higher Education World University Rankings.
